Adam loses it, but wins a listener

The housemate and I are not fans of Adam Curry, and only subscribe to his Daily Source Code podcast because he's the godfather of this podcasting thing and it's obligatory listening for people who interested in such things. Generally we lose interest after the first few minutes. But have to say we found the podcast of January 7 surprisingly moving.

Following the flurry of criticisms he received in response to his January 6 podcast, which took the form of an interview with possibly fictional radio show host Madge Weinstein, Adam, clearly upset and perhaps chastened as well, decided to try a change in format and took us on a "seeing tour" of South Beach, Miami.

Not only did this represent what in my opinion was a welcome departure from his usual musings about life at "Curry cottage" and his wranglings (yawn) with various British ISPs, but it was also refreshingly free of the usual Curry bombast. Adam strikes me as a man for whom it's terribly important to be liked and I suspect the less than glowing reviews he'd received about the "Madge exclusive" took him down a couple of notches, but I really did warm to the humbler Adam, and was rather touched by his expressions of hurt and irritation, which felt completely genuine, and also his acknowledgement that the show's format was running the risk of calcification if he didn't do something to shake things up.

Another person might have gone in the other direction, but Adam did the smart thing and simply let go. The result was quite wonderful. It allowed his natural decency and fair-mindedness to shine through as he walked the streets of South Beach, describing the sights and
talking to a few people, not necessarily in any great detail or with the greatest eloquence and not necessarily focusing on anything particularly exotic or interesting (the audio quality was intermittently iffy as well), but keeping me pretty much captivated for the entire 43 minutes.
